A single-engine airplane crashed in steep hills southwest of the San Luis Obispo Airport, killing both people aboard, authorities said Saturday.

The crash occurred in the Central California countryside near Port San Luis, about 8 miles southwest of the San Luis Obispo Airport about 9:20 p.m. Friday, a Federal Aviation Administration duty officer said.Two people died in the crash of the single-engine Cessna 152, he said.

The victims' identities were not immediately released.
