Prominent Palestinians condemned Saturday a senior Iranian's call for the killings of five Westerners for every Palestinian slain in the uprising in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
France, meanwhile, joined the United States and Britain in denouncing Iranian Parliament Speaker Hashemi Rafsanjani's call to kill American, British and French citizens, hijack planes and blow up factories in retaliation for the killings of Palestinians by the Israeli army.Iran is a frequent critic of Israel's 22-year occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip. More than 400 Palestinians have been killed in the territories, mostly by Israeli troops, since the start of the uprising nearly 17 months ago.
"I have no idea why the Iranians would suddenly make statements about the Palestinians," said Sari Nusseibeh, a prominent Palestinian in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. "I believe they should really look into their own business and allow us to look after ourselves."
