Andy Warhol's 1964 portrait of Marilyn Monroe titled "Shot Red Marilyn" drew $4 million at auction, a record for a work by the late artist.

"Shot Red Marilyn," a portrait of Monroe's face against a red background, had been valued at $1.5 million to $2 million. The selling price for the 40-inch-square painting was $4,070,000, said Gloria Harris, a spokeswoman for Christie's in New York.
