A Salt Lake man originally charged with murder but convicted of a misdemeanor weapon charge has begun serving a six-month jail term.

Michael Leon Jensen, 23, was ordered by 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson to begin the term Friday and to pay a $1,000 fine.A jury last month found Jensen guilty of brandishing a weapon in a fight that resulted in the death of Jeremy Vigil, 20, who was stabbed in the leg Feb. 25 outside the residence at 1497 W. Fourth South.

Prosecutors were unable to prove that Jensen was the one who stabbed Vigil because witnesses gave different stories.
