Thiokol Corp. has purchased Air Force Plant 78 at Promontory, Box Elder County, in an effort to ensure its position as the nation's leading solid propulsion aerospace company. Thiokol has operated the facility for more than 30 years under contract to the military. It has been used to produce large scale rocket motors for both the Air Force and Navy ballistic missiles as well as a variety of motors for Department of Defense Tactical Missiles.

Thiokol will continue military production at the plant while expanding its capabilities in response to a growing commercial satellite launch industry.
