A 17,000-ton Greek-owned ship carrying steel and timber to the Far East is believed to have sunk off the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius and its 25 Filipino crew members are missing, shipping sources said Friday.

The captain of the 17-year-old bulk-carrier Huron issued a distress call Thursday, saying the vessel was taking on water and that he and the crew were abandoning ship and boarding lifeboats, the sources said.There was no further contact with the crew.
