Four Utah junior high school "mathletes" will compete in the Mathcounts national championship May 12 in Washington, D.C.

They are Matt Bjorge, seventh grade, and Michael Shirts, eighth grade, both in a special accelerated program at West High School; and Gordon Hopper and Scott Robinson, both eighth-graders at Butler Middle School.The four Utah winners will compete against teams from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and U.S. Defense Department and State Department schools worldwide.
