The Provo/Orem Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for the second annual Athena Award to honor the outstanding businesswoman in Provo and Orem. The award is sponsored by the Chamber and the Excelsior Hotel at Seven Peaks Resort.

The Athena Award, named for the Greek goddess of wisdom, is presented to an individual for her business accomplishments, community service, chamber of commerce activity and support of the goals of professional women, said Jeanine Wyatt, director of marketing for the Excelsior."Athena was a very strong and courageous woman enlightened by wisdom and reason," she explained. "It is women with these virtues whom we wish to honor."

The award originated in 1982 and is given by more than 300 chambers of commerce in 44 states. The award reflects the attitude that the achievements and accomplishments of one woman serve to elevate all women, Wyatt said. It was first presented locally last year.

The Athena will be presented at the June 15 Women in Management Council luncheon at the Excelsior.

Nominations will be accepted through May 25. Forms may be obtained from Wyatt at 377-4700 or at the chamber office. Nominees must be chamber members or represent a member firm.
