Midvale is celebrating its sister-city status with Piedras Negras, Mexico, on Friday with the Cinco de Mayo festival that includes bands, food and entertainment on historic Main Street.
The free event, from 7 to 11 p.m., celebrates Mexico's independence. "This probably is the most important event in Mexico's history," said Mayor Everett Dahl, who last summer went into the bull ring in Piedras Negras. "This is the time the Mexicans kicked the French out."The Mexican consulate in Salt Lake City arranged for Midvale to become a sister city with Piedras Negras, a community of about 100,000 people on the border near Eagle Pass, Texas.
