Salt Lake fire officials say a coffee pot probably started a deadly April fire which claimed the lives of two children.

Lorin Marie Clark, 6, remained in critical condition Wednesday at the Intermountain Burn Unit of University Hospital with burns suffered in the April 21 fire. Her 4-year-old brother and a 14-year-old friend of the family died in the blaze that caused $300,000 in damage to the home at 943 E. South Temple.

"We have determined that the fire started on the kitchen counter in the area of the coffee pot," said Fire Battalion Chief Gordon Nicholl.

John Clark, 40, was released a week later from Holy Cross Hospital.
