The U.S. cultural center in the provincial city of Kwangju, attacked 26 times by radical students since 1981, will be moved and temporarily closed, news reports said Wednesday.

Gerald McLoughlin said the center that he directs would close May 10 to move to an as yet undetermined location, according to Yonhap, the South Korean news agency. But officials at the U.S. Embassy denied that the center, 180 miles southwest of Seoul, would close even temporarily. A spokesman said the question of a new location was still under study in Washington.
