Purdue defensive line coach Jim Washburn resigned Monday, five days after he and four other University of South Carolina football coaches were indicted for allegedly obtaining illegal steroids for South Carolina players.

Purdue Coach Fred Akers said Washburn has rejoined his family in South Carolina and will work full-time to clear his name.Washburn, Keith Kephart, University of Utah assistant coach Tom Gadd and Tom Kurucz, all former South Carolina assistants, were indicted by a federal grand jury last week on allegations they provided steroids to Gamecock players.
