Mayor R. Kent Evans signed a proclamation in Tuesday night's city council meeting designating May 1-6 as "Utah Pageant of the Arts Recognition Week," in conjunction with the box office opening Monday.

The proclamation notes the production's 17th anniversary since its founding under the direction of the city council in 1972 and states that the pageant has brought a positive image to American Fork and a high level of arts appreciation to both participants and audiences. The 1989 "living pictures" production will be presented Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, June 12-July 22 in the air-conditioned American Fork High School Theater. A pre-show backstage tour at 7 will be offered for an additional $2.

The proclamation calls upon citizens to join in community efforts to support the Pageant by purchasing tickets during the first week of the box office's opening. The board is also urging people to make a commitment to see the production this year, especially if they have never attended before.

The box office in the basement of the Senior Citizens Center, 54 E. Main, is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Phone orders will be taken at 756-3505. Visa and MasterCard are welcome.
