The Salt Lake School District is looking for volunteers to distribute federally funded free lunches to needy children this summer, as well as for sites from which to dispense the food.

The program, which begins June 12 and ends in August, was established to ensure needy children in low-income areas receive one nutritious meal a day when school lunch programs aren't available.Suggested sites are schools, churches, recreation centers, covered park shelters or other spaces large enough to feed 50 children. The sites should be in low-income areas, but they do not need to be within Salt Lake School District boundaries. All meals will be prepared by the district's food services and transported to the meal sites.

An information meeting will be held at 10 a.m. May 2 and repeated at 2:30 p.m. May 3 at the Highland High cafeteria, 2166 S. 17th East. Call Gale Ladwig at 328-7276.
