A hot final round of 296 helped BYU's morale at the HCAC golf championships Saturday, but the Cougars remained fixed in third place for the fourth straight year in the annual tournament.
New Mexico State won the team title with a 54-hole total of 887. Other scores were New Mexico 905, BYU 914, Wyoming 942 and Colorado State 1048.All BYU players posted scores in the 70s Saturday. Paula Suarez placed fifth with 77-74-74 225, Ruby Chico was ninth with 79-77-73 229, Lachell Simmons was 10th with 81-75-74 230, Robin Barry was 14th with 78-80-75 233, and Mary Grace Estuesta was 16th with 78-80-76 234.
Suarez and Estuesta were named to the All-HCAC Team. Paul Brilliant of NMS was voted Coach of the Year.
