An internal shooting review board will convene soon to decide whether an officer acted within policy when he discharged a firearm last Monday.

Salt Lake Police Officer Jed Hurst was attempting to unload a .25-caliber semiautomatic handgun recovered during a search of a house Monday when the gun fired, the bullet striking the floor."It looks like it was just an accident," said detective John Foster. Hurst "apparently didn't notice that a round hadn't cleared the chamber. He was unfamiliar with that particular gun."

The gun was one of two firearms recovered after the SWAT unit arrested a man and woman at 1799 S. Main. The man was booked into jail for investigation of aggravated assault. The woman was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants.
