Two Salt Lake juveniles have been charged in juvenile court in an incident in which two West High School students were left in a submerged automobile for more than a day before authorities were notified.
One of the juveniles, the driver of the automobile, was charged with two counts of negligent homicide, one count of auto theft by receiving and one count of obstructing justice in connection with the April 16 incident that resulted in the deaths of Jayson S. Wilson, 16, and Peter Wilson, 18.The other juvenile was charged with one count of auto theft and one count of obstructing justice. The cases have been referred to juvenile court because both boys are 17 years old.
Salt Lake County sheriff's detectives say they believe the four juveniles stole an automobile and while "joy riding," accidentally landed in a North Salt Lake canal and sank. Two escaped from the vehicle and tried to rescue the others but couldn't.
