A passenger train derailed in Kenya's western highlands before dawn Saturday, killing 11 people and injuring 114 - the second fatal train wreck in less than a month in the area, officials said.

The latest derailment occurred on the same stretch of Kenya's historic rail line as an April 5 wreck that killed four people and injured 90. The rail line had enjoyed a perfect safety record for more than 12 years until this month. The coincidence prompted speculation about sabotage among local residents, although railway officials maintained there was no link between the wrecks.
