Lawyers for a Christian Scientist couple who were charged with manslaughter after they failed to seek medical treatment for their dying son vowed to fight a judge's refusal to dismiss the charges.

In a decision unsealed Thursday, Suffolk Superior Court Judge Sandra Hamlin rejected a request to dismiss the charges facing David and Ginger Twitchell. As members of the Boston-based First Church of Christ Scientist, the Twitchells turned to prayer rather than calling a doctor when their 2-year-old son Robyn fell ill in 1986. The toddler died of a bowel obstruction.
