In mid-April the Farmer Jack Store at 1335 E. 106th South in Sandy will have a new Dan's sign on the front.

John Goodell, vice president of Dan's Foods Inc., said the company has purchased the store and after the April 15 closing it will reopen April 18. It will be the seventh store in the company's chain and the newest since the former Smith's Food Store at 23rd East and 33rd South was purchased last year. The above Farmer Jack store was one of several being sold by the Borman grocery chain of Detroit. Borman's acquired 61 Safeway stores in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming last year and turned them into Farmer Jack stores but earlier this year decided to sell them all.

In the 42,000 square-foot store, Goodell said the equipment will be upgraded, the grocery and delicatessen areas will be expanded and a Market Street fish area will be added.

Applications for employment by Farmer Jack employees will be considered along with others, Goodell said.
