Paul McCartney will cut "Ferry Crossed the Mersey," the 1964 hit by Gerry and the Pacemakers, to benefit the victims of the British soccer tragedy, and the chief Pacemaker will join him on the record.

McCartney recruited fellow Liverpudlians Gerry Marsden, Holly Johnson, formerly of Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and The Christians for the recording. Producer Pete Waterman expects the record to raise more than $5 million for the Hillsborough Disaster Appeal, which will benefit those affected by the tragedy at the Liverpool-Nottingham Forest soccer game Saturday.
