Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Lt. Gov. Val Oveson are urging Utahns to sign up as organ donors in the event of a tragedy.

Oveson initiated Organ Donor Awareness Week at a news conference Tuesday. A few people who have benefited from organ transplants attended."I just hope that during this week and in the months to come we will be more sensitive to the life-and-death needs of little children who need liver transplants, of fathers who need heart transplants and mothers whose kidneys are failing," Hatch said.

Hatch and Oveson urged Utahns to register as donors when they renew their driver licenses.

Officials from the Intermountain Organ Recovery System marched from the Capitol to LDS Hospital carrying hundreds of balloons.
