The Children's Museum of Utah gave its first Helen Henderson Docent of the Year Award Tuesday to Joanne Mitchell, a museum volunteer since 1986.

"I consider educational opportunities beyond those offered in school an asset to the children of a community," she said.The person who donated to provide the new award, retired University of Utah professor Helen Henderson, was also praised for her contribution. Henderson has been a docent at the museum for five years.

Other volunteers recognized were: Roger Anderson, Hazel Cooper, Nancy Nelson, Glen Vance, Vanessa Voight, Robyn Eley, George Jensen, Dean Cost, Ray Agutter, Georgine Colovos, Gloria Larsen, Helen Peters, Sarah Voight, Mike Bugden, Kim Eley, Gerri Nielsen and Pete Savage.
