Pro-choice advocates say a majority of Utahns, including active LDS Church members, believe the government should not be involved in the decision of whether a woman has an abortion.
At a Salt Lake news conference Wednesday, pro-choice advocates released a poll conducted three weeks ago by Dan Jones & Associates. The poll, which officials said had a margin of error of 3 percent, showed 64 percent of Utahns believe abortion should be a private issue.Of the 604 people polled statewide, 306 said they were active Mormons. Of those, 54 percent said the matter should remain a private issue.
"We are trying to support every person's right to choose," said Skip Branch, president of Planned Parenthood's Utah chapter. "This does not mean we're pro-abortion."
