An early morning fire fanned by gusting winds gutted a mobile home in Clearfield Thursday, destroying the unit and its contents, according to the Clearfield Fire Department.

The home owned by Ted Eason at 1213 W. Fourth North caught fire about 7:45 a.m., according to firefighter Perry Koger. Although no official cause has been determined, he said fire investigators and the unit's owner suspect the blaze may have started in the furnace.Koger estimated the loss of the trailer and contents at $12,000 to $13,000. Gusting winds fanned the flames and increased the fire's intensity, Koger said, and contributed to several firefighters being treated for heat exposure and exhaustion.

No other injuries were reported. Koger said Eason, a Clearfield City employee, had already left for work and his wife got their children out safely before reporting the blaze.
