Scott R. Mehr, a 1981 Kearns High School graduate, has won a $1,000 graduate fellowship, recognizing research work in chemistry at Brigham Young University.

The Loren C. and Maurine F. Bryner award is added to regular graduate assistantships and is given to an advanced chemistry graduate student who has at least a full year of study remaining before receiving an advanced degree, said J. Bevan Ott, chemistry department chairman.Mehr is a son of Erwin W. and Fern L. Mehr, Kearns, and is working toward a doctorate degree. He was a varsity cheerleader and an honor student, ranking 13th among 580 Kearns graduates. He served an LDS Mission in Tokyo.
