Dick K. Nanto, a Library of Congress expert on Japanese industrial competitiveness, will visit the University of Utah April 28 to address students in the Graduate School of Business Executive MBA program.

Nanto, who is assigned to industry and trade at the library's Congressional Research Service, will meet with the Executive MBA students from 8 a.m. to noon. His talk will cover all facets of Japan's industrial competitiveness, including culture, management, employment practices and legal regulations.The editor of numerous articles on international trade issues, Nanto taught economics at Brigham Young University for six years before joining the Library of Congress in 1980. He edited "Japan's Economy and Trade with the United States," has written newspaper op-ed pieces and is a frequent contributor to professional journals.

Nanto was a Senior Fellow with the Atlantic Council from September 1986 to August 1987. He earned his bachelor's degree in Asian studies at BYU and his master's and doctorate in economics at Harvard University.
