A task force appointed by Logan Mayor Newell Daines has recommended that the city avoid becoming part of a countywide water conservancy district.

Petitions in support of such a district are being circulated by an ad hoc committee appointed by the Cache County Council. A citizens group, People for Wise Water Planning, had launched its own campaign against the district's formation.Alvin Bishop, retired head of the Utah State University irrigation engineering department and chairman of the task force, argued Thursday night that "the advantages of Logan's participation in a countywide district are not offset by the disadvantages."

He said Logan's water sources, which include the DeWitt Springs and five wells, are adequate for more than double the present demand.
