Two Pitt Panthers, defensive end Burt Grossman and offensive tackle Tom Ricketts, tested positive for steroids at the Indianapolis combine workouts, according to personnel experts with two National Football League teams.

But that did not seem to hurt them in the draft Sunday. Both went in the first round, Grossman on the eighth choice to the San Diego Chargers and Ricketts on the 24th to the Pittsburgh Steelers.A third NFL personnel expert said Grossman's drug test showed traces of steroids. One source said his team would not consider drafting the players because of the risks involved with keeping steroid users healthy - they are more susceptible to injury and illness - and eligible to play. Another said Ricketts was not a heavy user and probably had taken them in an effort to help heal a sprained arch in his left foot.
