Amanda Maureen Hughes, who was born Jan. 10 in Salt Lake City, is a fifth-generation child on both sides of her family.

And the baby, who is the first child of her parents, Deborah Eavenson and Charles R. Hughes, and the first grandchild, first great-grandchild and first great-great grandchild on her mother's side of the family, has lots of other relatives, too.On her father's side of the family, Amanda is the youngest of six grandchildren and the only one to hold the Hughes name.

Besides her mother, Deborah, who goes by Deej, Amanda has three other living grandmothers - grandmother Pamela Bangerter Young, Farmington, N.M.; great-grandmother Maureen Christensen Bangerter, Salt Lake City; and great-great grandmother, Mildred Bodell Christensen Morgan, 86, Riverton, Salt Lake County.

On the side of her father, Charles, Amanda also has three other living grandparents. They are her grandfather, Clarence Ralph Hughes, Salt Lake City; great-grandmother Alice Stocks Hughes, Malad, Idaho; and great-great grandmother, Mary Edna Lewis Stocks, 94, Burley, Idaho.

Amanda also has four other living blood-related grandparents. They are a maternal great-grandfather, Elton Fred Bangerter, Salt Lake City; maternal grandfather, Dale I. Eavenson, West Valley City; maternal great-grandfather, Will I. Eavenson, and his wife, Emma Webb Eavenson, of Midvale; paternal grandmother, LaRae Violet Mickelsen Hughes, Kearns; paternal great-grandfather, Ralph Hughes, Malad; paternal great grandmother, Loreen Anderson Mickelsen, Blackfoot, Idaho. The latter woman's husband, Ray, died Nov. 14.

Amanda's step maternal grandparents are John Bryant Young, Farmington, N.M., and Etta May Wood Eavenson, West Valley City.

Gov. Norm Bangerter also has a tie to the family, being Amanda's first cousin three times removed.

To keep everything straight, genealogically speaking, Amanda may need to become interested in compiling her family tree.

If she isn't interested, she will be the recipient of a lot of records from her paternal grandfather, Clarence Ralph Hughes, who loves to gather and share such information.

The photograph accompanying this story doesn't include many of the family members. The family would like to get together for a more complete family picture, but that is not be possible because of illness and old age.

But "Amanda is rich in a nest of grandparents and love," Deej said.
