The West Valley Honorary Colonels Association has given special recognition to the police department's most outstanding officers and a West Valley resident.

The Officer of the Year award was given to detective Kevin Nudd for his overall extra efforts and selfless dedication to others, according to a police department release. Detective Ron Edwards and officer Kory Newbold were recognized as Officer of the Year finalists.The Police Star, one of the department's highest awards, was given to officers Darrel Paskett, Craig Peter-sen and Newbold. Paskett and Peter-sen received the citations for safety and exhibiting calmness while in separate high-speed pursuits. Newbold was honored for outstanding overall success and diligence while apprehending several violent felons during the year.

The lifesaving award was presented to officer Guy B. Dodge, who helped control the bleeding of a motorcycle driver who was seriously injured in a traffic accident. Dodge was also named the department's Shooter of the Year.

The Citizen of the Year award was given to City Councilman Duane Moss, who works as a volunteer one day a week with the city's legal and public works departments and animal shelter. He has also been the chairman of the West Fest Committee for the past three years.

Officers Veijo Jones, Paul Jacobson, Cal Chilton, Mike Wells, Kelly Rushton, Nick Kingery, Ron Edwards, Mark Lorenz and Terry Chen were presented with the department's Certificate of Merit.
