A burglar may have been responsible for a fire that caused more than $75,000 damage to four businesses in the 300 block of Ogden's 24th Street Friday, says Fire Chief Joe Murray.

He said the fire appeared to have started at the rear of the Horseshoe Lounge. Investigators sifted through the ashes and questioned T.M. Feeney, owner of the building that houses the bar, to determine what may be missing.Murray said the 4:45 a.m. fire gutted the bar and caused about $25,000 damage to the building's interior.

More severe damage, however, was done to the neighboring Frame House and Gallery, owned by David Cummings. Murray said flames never entered the building, but the its contents suffered severe smoke damage.

In all, that business sustained about $50,000 damage.

Peck's Model Co. and The Barber Shop also had smoke damage, Murray said.

All of the buildings were unoccupied when the fire occurred, he said.
