A 5-year-old girl whose hand was blown off when a pipe bomb exploded at a K mart store was "alert and talkative" and playing with dolls in her hospital room Saturday, while additional federal agents were summoned to investigate the explosion.

The condition of the girl, Erin Bower, has improved from fair to satisfactory, hospital officials said."She is going to begin a regular diet today," Methodist Hospital spokesman Jon White said Saturday. "She's still very alert and talkative. She's been playing with dolls in her room."

The girl's left hand was amputated after the blast that occurred at a K mart store last Monday when she picked up a container similar to a toothpaste tube.
