The candidate list for West Jordan's top public safety post has been narrowedto two, but a decision will not be made until after a May 23 special election.

Voters in the election will determine whether West Jordan's government continues to operate with a city manager and part-time mayor or whether it changes to a mayor/council government.City Manager Ron Olson said the candidates for the city's vacant public safety director post expressed apprehension about taking a highly political job without knowing whether the government would be changing several months down the road. "That may put their jobs in jeopardy, and they would have to pack up and move again," Olson said.

The post has been vacant since former Chief Kal O. Farr announced his resignation in mid-December.
