Left wing Stephane Matteau, 19, was to join the Salt Lake Golden Eagles today as his junior team, Hull of the Quebec League, has been eliminated in the league semifinals.

Matteau, a 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, scored 14 points in nine playoff games and had 44 goals, 45 assists and 202 penalty minutes in 59 games during the regular season with Hull. He played with the Eagles during training camp last fall.The Eagles are still awaiting a winner in the Milwaukee-Kalamazoo IHL quarterfinal series. After Salt Lake eliminated Denver in four straight games last week, the Eagles have been idle while the rest of the playoffs are still going on. It is speculated that the Eagles' next playoff game, which will be in the Salt Palace, would be Wednesday, April 26.

The Eagles are spending this week practicing with assistant coach Bob Francis while Coach Paul Baxter is in Calgary to watch the parent Flames in their playoff series with the Los Angeles Kings.
