The auditorium of the old South High School building will again become a center for the arts as the school is converted to a South City campus of Salt Lake Community College.

The college's Development Foundation has provided approximately $45,000 to begin a Salt Lake Performing Arts Program on the downtown campus.Pat Davis, long associated with the performing arts in Salt Lake City, will direct the program. She is now associated with the Skills Center, which is administered by the college.

"Promised Valley," a popular summertime attraction in Salt Lake City for many years, will be revived, college officials said. In addition, five other plays or events will be sponsored each year, including a Halloween haunted house and Dickens' "Christmas Carol" during the holiday season.

Officials estimate the arts center could generate as much as $300,000 per year for the college.
