Marlee Matlin, who won the best actress Academy Award for her performance as the young deaf woman in "Children of a Lesser God" in 1986, has become national spokeswoman for the National Captioning Institute.
Matlin recently commended the growth of closed-captioned TV and spurred major corporations in their cooperative efforts to expand captioned broadcast, cable and home video programming.
Last year NCI achieved a 20 percent increase in the number of primetime programming hours captioned. For the first time in TV history, more than 95 percent of the three network's primetime lineups were captioned.
-RICHARD CRENNA and Tyne Daly will co-star in "Stuck with Each Other," a two-hour NBC-TV movie due for broadcast next season.
