A Spokane-based Ku Klux Klan group that solicited funds for the election campaign of Louisiana legislator David Duke is doing the same for Daniel Johnson, who is running for Congress in Wyoming.
Kim Allyn Badynski, a former Klan official from Illinois who is believed to head the Spokane-based Northwest Knights, sent letters over the weekend seeking contributions from supporters for Johnson's campaign.Johnson is running for the seat vacated by Republican Dick Cheney, who was nominated by President Bush as defense secretary after John Tower's nomination was rejected by the Senate.
Badynski's letter said Johnson was never a Klan member, but is sympathetic to Klan issues.
Johnson could not immediately be reached for comment. He has in the past supported legislation that would have allowed only Caucasians to be eligible for U.S. citizenship.
