The Bureau of Reclamation has appointed Arizona State University scientist Duncan T. Patten as senior scientist for environmental studies of Glen Canyon Dam, bureau spokesman Barry Wirth says.

The studies are to evaluate the effect of the dam, about 5 miles south of the Arizona-Utah state line, on the downstream natural and recreational resources of Grand Canyon, Wirth said.Patten is charged with ensuring the studies complement each other and that accepted practices of reporting and review take place, he said.

In addition to serving as director of the Center for Environmental Studies at Arizona State University, Patten has consulted several environmental and resource development organizations.
