Davis County residents are invited to spend an evening with Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah, Saturday and hear him describe his experience in space.
The senator will show a movie of his seven-day flight in the Space Shuttle Discovery during a meeting in Centerville on Saturday at 7 p.m., sponsored by Varsity Scout Team 6768.Garn will also answer questions and speak about the space program.
The event is a fund-raising venture for the Varsity Scouts. Tickets, which may be purchased at the door, cost $3 a person, $10 per family or $25 for groups of 10 people.
The location is the LDS Stake Center at 270 N. Third East in Centerville.
Garn was the first non-astronaut, non-scientist to take a space flight - and the first politician in space. He flew into space in April of 1985 and has said it was one of the great experiences of his life. It was, in many ways, an intense religious, emotional and personal experience, he said.
He will share his feelings at the meeting. The public is invited.
