A Salt Lake man was in serious condition Tuesday morning after falling 60 feet while climbing in Provo Canyon over the weekend.
Patrick Boyer, 21, had free climbed a little more than halfway up the face along Bridal Veil Falls with a friend when he slipped on a mossy rock at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. The Utah County Search and Rescue Team and several other agencies helped get Boyer the rest of the way to the ground and transported him to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Boyer suffered lacerations, broken legs and ribs and head trauma. His friend was unhurt. Early Monday, Boyer underwent surgery to relieve pressure caused by bleeding around his brain. Later that day, his condition was upgraded from critical to serious, and Boyer regained consciousness.
Witnesses to the accident described the climb as "precarious" and said Boyer was "lucky to be alive."
