It was a chocolate-lover's delight but a big headache for everyone else when a candy-laden semitrailer truck overturned on U.S. 6 spilling 15 million pieces of M&Ms.

"There was candy everywhere," said Police Chief Jim Brown. It took a dozen teenagers almost eight hours to collect the 42,000 pounds of candy, including 11.1 million pieces of plain M&Ms and 4.1 million pieces of peanut candy, said Brown.

The accident occurred early Sunday when an eastbound van crossed the center line and struck the semitrailer truck, state police said.

No serious injuries were reported.

"Everybody munched on some candy as they went," Brown said.
