More than 30,000 people poured into Tiananmen Square Tuesday in the fourth day of pro-democracy demonstrations by university students and teachers touched off by the death of former Communist Party leader Hu Yaobang.

"Long Live Hu Yaobang," a group of about 5,000 students chanted during a series of marches through the square in central Beijing under the watchful eyes of hundreds of police who moved into the area after dark.The rally late Tuesday was the boldest challenge to the government in four days of campus unrest.
