Anyone who was denied Medicaid because of grandparents living in the home may be able to reapply and become eligible.
Previous policy considered not only the income of a minor's parent living in the grandparents' home, but also the income of the grandparents when determining eligibility. Last month, the U.S. District Court banned the policy. All Offices of Community Operation in the state have been ordered to stop applying the old policy and discontinue recovery of overpayments based on it.The Office of Community Operations must notify all applicants known to them who were denied Medicaid because of this policy.
Anyone who thinks his child may have been denied Medicaid because of grandparent income should contact the local Office of Community Operation, located in the blue pages of the phone book under Utah State Government, Social Services Department.
