Two of Utah's top high school basketball stars, Provo's Mark Durrant and Clearfield's Russell Larson, have signed a letter-of-intent with Brigham Young University.

BYU Coach Roger Reid announced the signings Saturday, bringing the number of Cougar first-year players to five. Three other prep players signed with the Cougars during early signing week last fall, and earlier in the week Reid acquired Todd Crow, a Dixie College standout.Durrant, a 6-7 forward, averaged 25 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, four steals and two blocked shots per game at Provo High this year.

Larson, who was also first-team all-state, was a 6-10 center at Clearfield. He averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots per game. Larson, who plans on going an a mission before joining the Cougars, was the leading scorer in the recent Utah all-star game pitting the best of the 3-A schools against the 4-A stars.
