A Salt Lake amateur climber was upgraded to serious condition Monday morning following surgery to treat injuries sustained Sunday when he fell about 60 feet from a ledge at Bridal Veil Falls.

Patrick Boyer, 21, was climbing in Provo Canyon with a friend at 6:30 p.m. when he slipped on a mossy rock and fell to a lower ledge, critically injuring himself. The Utah County Search and Rescue team and several other safety agencies brought Boyer to the ground and transported him to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.

He suffered leg and rib fractures and head trauma. Early morning surgery was performed to relieve pressure caused by bleeding in the membrane surrounding his brain, and he was reported conscious later Monday morning.

Boyer's friend was unhurt.
