The preliminary hearing of a Salem man charged with sexual abuse of a child has been continued to April 26 in 4th Circuit Court.
Jeffrey Douglas Wood, 40, previously had been scheduled to appear April 12.The sexual abuse charge stems from an alleged incident between 1986 and 1988 involving a child younger than 14. The offense is a second-degree felony.
Wood also faces a misdemeanor charge of child abuse stemming from an incident Feb. 9, 1989.
If convicted of both counts, Wood could face as much as 15 1/2 years in prison and $11,000 in fines.
