It's a marriage made in a soup kitchen. Richard H. Powell, one of more visible advocates for street people in Virginia Beach, Va., married Robert M. "Bobby" Adams, who once had faced homelessness herself.

Members of Galilee Episcopal Church looked for parking spaces while regulars at Virginia Beach's only soup kitchen walked in cold, rainy weather to the ceremony Saturday.Powell, 53, organized local churches three years ago to voluntarily cook for a soup kitchen. The organization, Virginia Beach Christian Outreach, dishes out meals six days a week at a Christian coffeehouse. Powell for the past three years also has worked to form a shelter for single street people in the city. For the wedding reception, the newlyweds closed the soup kitchen and brought fried chicken, lasagna and coleslaw to the church meeting hall.
