BYU moved into first place in the Western Athletic Conference baseball race with a pair of wins over New Mexico on Friday, 2-1 and 5-3.

BYU, now 28-10 overall and ranked 18th by Collegiate Baseball, is 8-3, while San Diego State is 8-4.Once again BYU catcher Brad Eagar hit a home run, his 11th in 10 games during the span of one week, to lift the Cougars to victory. Eagar hit a seventh inning solo homer to break a 1-1 deadlock. Pitcher Darin Kracl went the full seven innings, striking out five Lobos.

A first-inning home run in the nightcap by Randy Wilstead got BYU off to another good start. Wilstead batted in two other runs in the 5-3 victory. Speedster Gary Miner netted a double and a triple, while John DeSilva pitched the seven-inning distance.
