One woman is dead following a three-car accident at the intersection of 550 W. University Parkway and 2230 North Friday morning.

Rhoda Cobia, 77, Orem, was pronounced dead at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, according to hospital spokesman Clark Caras. The victim was a passenger in a car driven by Kathryn Cobia, 19, Orem, who was eastbound on the Parkway attempting to make a left turn onto 2230 North, said Provo Police Sgt. Greg Duval. A westbound vehicle driven by Daren Habel, 21, Orem, struck the Cobia vehicle, forcing it into a vehicle driven by Tobi Potestio, 22, Provo.

All three drivers were treated and released for minor injuries.

Everyone involved, including the victim, were wearing seat belts, said Duval. But the impact on the passenger side was so great that wearing a seat belt didn't provide adequate protection. It did, however, for the three drivers, who were relatively unharmed, he said.
